zdeno family

“At Zdeno Cycle, you’re not a customer, you’re part of our motorcycle family.”
– Linda Reinhart

I have been tasked with writing an article about Zdeno Cycle. I could do the typical history of the business and write about the fact that Canadian motocross champion and Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Famer, Zdeno Syrovy started the shop in Parry Sound in 1969, then moved it to Guelph and finally to is current location. Or I could cover off that in 1987. Zdeno’s sister Jerry and brother-in-law Al took over running the business. This is a bit closer to the true reason Zdeno Cycle is still operational, as it is Jerry and Al’s youngest daughter. Linda Reinhart who reigns over one of Canada’s Largest Motorcycle dynasties. So this is ‘her’ story…

I first met Linda in 2013, at that time the shop was very cluttered_ overwhelming and customer service was at an all time low. Linda has a bubbly personality and a mind for marketing. She is not what you would expect to see at a traditional bike shop; however neither is Zdeno Cycle upon first glance. Linda’s slight stature and pixie like features – in comparison the exterior of Zdeno looks inure like a ski chalet, not a bike shop. However once you are in the know. you soon realize that much like Linda, Zdeno Cycle offers so much more.

Linda’s clear direction for the shop and hard work is paying off. Like the little engine that could Linda’s tenacity and spunk. ensures the vision and success of Zdeno Cycle stays on course in the ever competitive motorcycle industry. This past fall the entire showroom received an overhaul (tone ate the cluttered racking as soon as you come through the door Now you are greeted try Chris at the front counter and  a wide panoramic of the clothing and gear department, stairs leaded you down to the helmet section of the storefront. Then take the highway hall to be greeted by Linda’s ‘partner in come’ Lonnie, in the Parts and Accessories Showroom.  At the back it the service department and warehouse. Now rumour has it that tone customer love it and others are upset, saying it doesn’t feel like a true bike shop now that the clutter is gone!

Your be the judge and let us know what you think, post a picture of yourself in the shop with the tag #ilovezdeno

So, it appears when Zdeno Cycle was awarded a Diamond designation of Motorcycle Shop of the Year, 3 years running… it may prove to be more metaphorical than we realize.

Zdeno’s service department is fully-equipped and capable of handling all of your motorcycle maintenance and repairs. With licensed technicians able to perform everything from a simple oil change to a complete rebuild of all makes and models of bikes. With as many as seven bikes being serviced at once. Be-tween the walls of the enormous building you will find thousands of square feet filled with almost any used pan you could think of. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of Zdeno Cycle in the motorcycle com-munity. Personally I can’t wait to see what Linda and her team have up their sleeves to celebrate such a momentous occasion. So, when you have been going strong for five decades, it’s obvious that you are doing something right. Linda has turned a lot of negatives into positives. Her staff is incredible and dedicated to making your experience the best as possible.

It’s not uncommon to hear customers say they have traveled from as far east as Ottawa and west as Windsor, or even farther, to pay a visit. Often first-time visitors tend to spend up to an hour there, as they tour the showroom, ware-house and salvage yard in awe. So be sure to ask for a tour.

Linda says the goal for the present and future is to continue to be the best bike shop in Canada for parts, and to continue providing excellent service. Be sure to set your (GPS coordinates for Zdeno Cycle and prepare to be impressed. It really is an experience worth having!
